Liesbet Braeckman
Liesbet Braeckman ('s Gravenwezel, Belgium) is a Belgian artist working at the intersection of textile, sculpture, and graphic composition. Her wall-based objects transform surplus and discarded materials from Belgian weaving mills and textile manufacturers — fabrics carrying weaving flaws, production damages, or the quiet dignity of the leftover — into works of striking formal beauty and tactile presence.
The choice of material is fundamental to Braeckman's practice, both conceptually and aesthetically. By working exclusively with linen, cotton, and synthetic fibres that would otherwise be discarded, she draws attention to the overlooked value embedded in what industry considers waste.
Her practice moves fluidly between two distinct approaches. On one hand, she creates expressive, organic pieces with a pronounced sculptural character — voluminous, layered works that assert themselves boldly in space. On the other, she produces minimalist graphic compositions that foreground linework, spatial rhythm, and the subtle, irreducible qualities of woven fabric.
Braeckman's work invites both visual and tactile engagement. Her surfaces reward close attention — the more one looks, the more one finds — while retaining an immediate, confident presence from a distance.
